Abstract

We report measurements of the reaction π - p → π + π - n at 100 and 175 GeV/c using a large wire chamber spectrometer at Fermilab. Production of ρ 0 , f 0 , and g 0 resonances was observed. Cross sections for π - p → π + π - n in the ρ 0 mass region are given. Decay angle distributions for ππ masses from .55 to 3.5 GeV/c 2 are presented. Moment analyses of the decay distributions are made as a function of ππ mass from .55 to 2.4 GeV/c 2 . Contours of ππ decay distribution dips are given in s ππ and t ππ . Comparisons with several lower energy experiments are made. Detailed discussions of the apparatus, trigger, and analysis procedures are given.
