A new improved electrophoresis-convection apparatus for the fractionation of proteins is described. The potentialities of the apparatus are demonstrated in the partial separation of bovine serum proteins and in the sub-fractionation of bovine [...]-globulin, Fraction II obtained by alcohol-salt precipitation. A fraction containing 96% [...]-globulin has been isolated from bovine serum. Bovine [...]-globulin has been separated into eight fractions with mobilities ranging from -1.25x10(-5) to -2.25x10(-5) and isoelectric points extending from pH 7.31 to pH 5.74.
An extension of the theory of reversible boundary spreading in the electrophoresis of proteins is presented. The theory has been applied to the characterization of the [...]-globulin fractions.
