Abstract

l-butanethiol was irradiated at 2537 Å. Hydrogen sulfide, butyl disulfide, and the previously unreported dibutyl sulfide were observed in the reaction mixture, in addition to an unidentified compound thought to be identical to the major thermal decomposition product of butyl disulfide. The quantum yields for Bu2S and (BuS)2 were found to be 0.087 and 1.9 respectively.
