Abstract

To test the hypothesis that 6-epi-santonin's different stereochemistry might allow a phenolic photo-product, unlike santonin, several irradiations of 6-epi-santonin were run in an attempt to isolate a phenol. Although no phenol could be isolated, the results were ambiguous as to whether a phenol was actually present. An attempt to determine the product distribution was also made, but was not completed.
