Abstract

An experimental investigation was made in the GALCIT Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Leg No. l to determine the base pressure and static pressure on a cone-cylinder at a nominal Mach number of 5.8 in both one-phase and two-phase flow. The scope of the investigation was a determination of interference data necessary for proper evaluation of base pressure results, investigation of the effect of Reynolds number on base pressure, and a comparison of experimental and theoretical static pressure distribution on a cone-cylinder. As has been noted by other investigators, viscous effects in hypersonic flow were quite pronounced and demonstrated the increased non-linearity of the problems in hypersonic flow.
