Abstract
An efficient method of preparing N-acetyl-L-tyrosine methyl ester is described. This compound has been converted to the optically pure O-methyl derivative by reaction with diazomethane. The saponification of N-acetyl-L-tyrosine methyl ester is a more convenient rout to N-acetyl-L-tyrosine than the direct acetylation of L-tyrosine. N-acetyl-L-tyrosine can be converted to optically pure O-methylN-acetyl-L-tyrosine via the Williamson synthesis. The preparation of several other derivatives of L- tyrosine is also described.
