Abstract
A search for events of the type γ + n → K[superscript o] + Λ[superscript 0] or γ + n → K[superscript 0] + Σ[superscript 0] has been made. Photon energies up to 1530 MeV were available. The technique used was to observe the region near the interaction point using a heavy liquid bubble chamber, with the liquid surrounding a central tube containing deuterium gas. About 14,000 pictures were multiply scanned and analyzed by techniques developed especially for these reactions. The most probable conclusion is that no events of the above types were seen. The meaning of this result in terms of limits on the average cross sections for those interactions is given, and the significance of the result with respect to previously published theories and experiments is discussed.
