Abstract
The structure of crystals of meta-aminobenzoic acid hydrochloride has been determined by two two-dimensional Patterson projections and refined by three-dimensional least-squares techniques. The crystals are triclinic, space group P1, with unit cell dimensions: a=4.562, b=5.823, c=14.724, α =98°39', β =91°12', γ =95°45'. There are two molecules in the unit cell. The R index of the refined structure is 11.26% with 1507 reflections. Pairs of molecules are linked together to form dimers through two O-H··O hydrogen bonds arranged about a center of symmetry; and the amino and benzene ring fall in the same plane, with the oxygens in the carboxyl groups tilted. out of the plane by 0.12 angstroms.
